In 1980, my father and his brothers built a freshwater pearl wholesale business, Evergreen Pearls Co., from scratch in Hong Kong, supporting several families. More than forty years on, I have watched that generation — and their customers — grow older. They believe the glory days of pearls are fading with them, and plans were made to wind down the family business.

Do you also think of pearls as old-fashioned heirlooms passed down from grandmothers? Or jewellery reserved only for the most formal occasions?

I see it differently. With contemporary design, I believe pearls can feel thoroughly modern and fashionable. After moving to the UK, I began creating handmade pearl jewellery, and I especially enjoy irregular and varied pearl shapes — they open up endless design possibilities.

I founded Everia to carry this legacy forward — to keep freshwater pearls alive in a contemporary way, and to share that beauty with a new generation.
